What to expect on your 1st visit...

The following section will provide you with a description of what to expect on your first visit to our office. Your initial visit will last approximately one hour. All subsequent visits will require only 20-30 minutes of your time.

To further assist us, please bring your driver's license and insurance card with you. If your case involves litigation, we ask that you provide us with the name and phone number of your insurance company, a claim number (if you have been assigned one), and the name and phone number of your attorney if you have one.

Upon entering our office first time, you'll be asked to complete some brief paperwork. This paperwork will provide us with information about yourself and any health problems you may be experiencing.

Once the paperwork has been completed, we will ask you some questions about your health history.  Then you will have the opportunity to discuss your health condition and concerns with Dr. Warde or Dr. Humble in a private and relaxed atmosphere.

After this preliminary consultation, the Doctor conduct a comprehensive physical examination to determine the nature of your problem.

This examination may include any of the following components:

  • Inspection - such as posture and gait analysis as well as general appearance.
  • Palpation - the doctor will examine various areas of your body using gentle pressure and touch.
  • Instrumentation - this will include blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, weight, height, BMI, etc...
  • Range of motion studies - used to identify any limitations in motion of spinal segments or extremities.
  • Orthopedic evaluation - consists of simple tests used to help identify the cause of your problem.
  • Neurological examination - consists primarily of muscle tests, reflex testing and skin sensation.

Following the history and physical examination, Dr. Warde or Dr. Humble may recommend specific diagnostic tests such as x-rays, computerized range of motion or strength tests, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electromyogram (EMG) and/or various laboratory studies to further assess the nature of your condition and help to insure a complete and accurate diagnosis of your problem. These tests, if necessary, will also help the doctor to develop the most effective care plan for your specific problem.

Once the examination has been completed, you will generally receive your first treatment. Treatments typically include a combination of physio-modalities, therapeutic activities/exercise and general dietary guidelines and nutritional recommendations. You may or may not receive your first gentle spinal adjustment.  If you are being treated for an injury, these treatments will help to reduce pain and inflammation and enhance healing.

Before leaving the office, you will be provided with specific instructions regarding the management of your condition while at home. They may include recommendations for the application of heat or ice, avoidance of certain activities and positions, nutritional and dietary changes, work restrictions, as well as exercises and stretches. These instructions are designed to compliment your treatments in the office and will help to ensure a favorable outcome.

Your next appointment will be scheduled within 1-2 days, depending on the severity of your condition. At that time, Dr. Warde or Dr. Humble will explain in further detail the nature of your condition, your treatment options, frequency of visits, expected duration of treatment, and prognosis.

In the event your condition requires further investigation, we will make the appropriate referral.  We have great working relationships with some of the best orthopedists, neurologits and family care practitioners in the area.  If necessary, we will personally schedule the appointment for you to ensure a prompt consultation / evaluation.
